Examination and treatment room lighting

A distinction is made between general and special examination and treatment rooms. Special room lighting needs to cater to the requirements of the medical speciality, e.g. providing light for ophthalmic, ENT, gynaecological, logical or dental examinations. So that patients lying down are not dazzled, it is important to ensure that the luminaires in the room are not positioned directly above the treatment trolley.

Depending on the medical speciality for which the room is used, supplementary examination and treatment luminaires may be advisable. Here, attention needs to be paid particularly to the radius of the activity zone. In the case of scanning procedures – e.g. ultrasound examinations - the light from luminaires must not cause disturbing reflections on monitors and should permit regulation or multi-stage switching.

In outpatient departments, examinations are conducted and treatment provided for all kinds of ailments. So the rooms of an outpatient department have basically the same lighting requirements as general examination rooms.(article from www.greendyled.com)
