Warehouse lighting

Less lighting is needed for warehouse lighting work than for work in production bays. Even so, the lighting needs to be adequate for the visual tasks which are performed. Relatively high illuminance is particularly important where the goods handled are small and wherever picking operations involve reading (labels, order forms, etc.). Where reading and searching is confined mainly to racks - i.e. to a vertical plane - care must be taken to ensure adequate vertical illuminance. 300 lux may well be required here.

In addition, it is important not to underestimate the risk of accidents in a warehouse. Illuminance levels somewhat higher than those required by DIN EN 12464-1 (see table) - which are minimums - facilitates reliable visual perception, aids concentration and helps mistakes to be avoided and dangerous situations to be identified.

Neutral white or warm white are the corrrect choice of light colour for lamps. Their colour rendering index should be at least Ra ≥ 40, Ra ≥ 60 for operators' stations.(www.greendyled.com)
